The Perennial Edible Landscaping Intensive will be a one-day (6 hrs) course. This workshop will cover the essentials of creating edible landscaping in the central Texas climate, enabling you to maximize the productive potential of your landscape through using ecological design principles and your own creativity.
Instructor Kirby Fry has more than a decade of experience in ecological design as founder/director of the Cross Timers Permaculture Institute in Glen Rose Texas, his own consultation service Southern Exposure Permaculture & has studied with Bill Mollison (co-founder of the Permaculture movement). Kirby will present the gardens on his homestead as a case study. There will also be opportunity for some hands on experience as we begin planting a perennial food-scape at the farm.
The workshop will cover:- site analysis
- soil preparation/earthworks (fertilization, soil amendments, water harvesting berms)
- plant selection
- Guild design (mutualistic plant combination)
- mapping
- installation
Some of the plants provided to workshop participants will be:
- Sour Cherry
- Blackberry
- Autumn Olive (a berry bearing bush)
- champanel grapes

A farm fresh lunch will be provided mid-day.
